A Hog in Dog Heaven - Kewanee, IL - July 10 - 14, 2013
In July of 2013 a group of International Artists converged on Kewanee, IL to paint 15 historically themed mural in 4 days. Each mural had an assigned Project Leader who wass responsible for the design and production of the mural assigned to them.
Kewanee, IL was once know as "The Hog Capital of the World". The murals that are being planned for this event will celebrate much of the rich history of this Midwestern city. See the list of themes that will be painted below.
Kewanee was also the home of Roger Reiman, a legend in the world of motorcycle racing. Roger won the inaugural Daytona 200 Race held at the newly built Daytona International Seedway. He went on the win the Daytona 200 again in 1964 and 1965. Reiman won the AMA Grand National Championship in 1964. In 1970 Roger assumed the responsibility of running the family-owned Harley-Davidson® dealership in Kewanee and scaled back his racing schedule. At this same time he also became the head mechanic for famous motorcycle showman Evel Knievel. Unfortunately, Reiman's life was cut short in an untimely death from a track accident while practicing for a Racing Legends event on March 4, 1997 at Daytona International Speedway.
Most of the murals planned for the Kewanee event have one project leader and will be approximately 300 sq. ft. in size. Because Roger Reiman left such a rich legacy and list of accomplishments, the decision was made to double the size of the mural to 600 sq ft. and assign the project to two Project Leaders.
The Roger Reiman Memorial Mural was designed and led by Dale Manor of Racine, WI and Ted Turner of Brookfield, WI.
